London : Attractions
With so many attractions, visitors with limited time in London would be wise to plan their itineraries carefully. A typical tour of the city will take in all the main landmarks, many of which can be covered on foot or by using the handy London Underground. By starting at Westminster Abbey, you can visit the iconic Big Ben before walking to Buckingham Palace, the city’s royal residence, via Trafalgar square and the National Gallery.
The West End and Soho can easily be browsed on foot and are ideal places to stop and have lunch. Just a short walk away is Oxford street, London’s shopping mecca, which joins with neon-lit Piccadilly Circus. Other shopping hotspots include Covent Garden, full of street performers, and Knightsbridge, which packs shoppers into its Harrods outlet.
A visit to the Tower of London will give you a historical perspective on the city, as will the creepy London Dungeon. The dome of St Paul’s Cathedral is visible from many of the city’s vantage points; best so from the London Eye which takes passengers up 135m. And when the notorious British weather turns sour, London has some of the world’s top museums, such as the Tate Modern and the British Museum. Madame Tussards and the London Zoo can be fun additions to your visit if you have extra time or children accompanying you. |
