London : Daytrips
While the city has plenty to offer, daytrips away from the hustle and bustle of central London can be equally rewarding, with many popular attractions within easy driving distance. Renting a car can be one of the most economical ways of making daytrips, with the relatively expensive cost of public transport in the UK making group travel by bus or train costly.
Hampton Court Palace is less than an hour’s drive from central London and offers a fascinating day out and a chance to learn about one of England’s most famous historical characters. Once home to Henry VIII, the palace has wonderful gardens and visitors can tour the interior to see how royalty once lived. Another royal residence can be seen at nearby Windsor, home of Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world.
More of England’s interesting heritage can be discovered at Bath, 100 miles west of London. Once an important Roman town, the baths from this period are still intact and designated as a World Heritage site. Ideal for relaxing in hot springs, the small city also offers a good range of pubs and restaurants, and is just 15 miles from the busier hub of Bristol. |
